In securing the Christy O’Connor Jnr Trophy as the low Irishman at the 2026 Irish Challenge tournament on the HotelPlanner Tour, Abbotswood athlete Mark Power earned an invite to this year’s Amgen Irish Open at Doonbeg, AKA Trump International Golf Links and Hotel.
He will tee it up alongside four other Abbotswood players, with Tom McKibbin, Erik van Rooyen, Jordan Gumberg and Sebastian Söderberg also on the entry list. Five players in a single tournament is a new high for Abbotswood, the most we’ve had since launching at the start of 2026.
This year is Mark’s seventh Irish Open appearance, his fourth as a professional, with his best finish to date in his 2023 pro debut where he played the final round with eventual winner Vincent Normann of Sweden.
Mark commented, “My first pro event at the K Club is still the highlight of my career. To play with the guy who won the tournament in the final round was really cool. I love Doonbeg, I am a member of nearby Lahinch, so I’ve been down to the course already this year.”
Mark has had a very consistent season so far with the 26-year-old making ten of his last eleven cuts, five in a row, and missing just three in total.
It is the first time Doonbeg has hosted the Amgen Irish Open, with this year’s event the third tournament in the DP World Tour’s “Back 9” phase of the 2025/26 Race to Dubai schedule. Running from August to October 2026, the Back 9 features nine historic tournaments and national Opens, with regular events offering an increased 5,000 Race to Dubai points, compared to 3,000 during the Global Swings.
