Malan is one of the world’s most talented elite amateur golfers and we are delighted that he has chosen to turn pro with Abbotswood. From Kirkwood in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Malan emerged as one of the country’s leading young players and quickly established himself among its top junior golfers. In 2021, he was ranked No. 2 and recorded four Eastern Province amateur victories. He also represented South Africa internationally, including at the 2019 Italian International Championship.
Malan moved to the United States in 2022 to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he became a standout member of the Ragin’ Cajuns golf team. He led them in scoring as a freshman and went on to earn four All-Sun Belt selections. During his senior season in 2025–26, he recorded a remarkable 69.56 scoring average – the best single-season mark in Louisiana’s golf history. He also became the university’s first Golfweek All-American, earning third-team honours from both Golfweek and PING/GCAA.
His 2026 season included an NCAA record 93-hole bogey-free streak as well as equalling Jon Rham’s course record 63 at Royal Liverpool during the 2026 Amateur Championship, where he also made it through to the matchplay round of 16. He represented the international Palmer Cup team at Tralee, made the round of 32 matchplay at the US Amateur and qualified individually for the NCAA Championship after winning the Athens Regional and finished 32nd nationally. Malan finished his amateur career with a WAGR highest ranking of 39. More, much more, to follow.
